The Purpose of Blue Sky Church
At Blue Sky, we believe in the importance of telling people about Jesus Christ. He commanded His followers to "go, and make disciples of all nations" (Matt. 28:19). We believe in the necessity of commiting yourself to Jesus' local church; that every Christian is intended to live out their faith with other believers in the church. We believe that Christians will never come to maturity until they learn to give themselves away through serving others. Our model for this is Jesus Christ, who "did not come to be served, but to serve" (Mark 10:45). We also hold worshipping God in the highest importance -- loving Him with "all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" (Matt 22:37). These are the things that matter to us most at Blue Sky.
What Does Blue Sky Church Believe?
It can be challenging to figure out what a church believes, mainly because so many churches believe so many different things. We understand the challenge of finding a church that feels like home while being confident that their values and beliefs are deeply rooted in Jesus and the truths of the Bible.
Our beliefs are pretty simple. We believe the Bible. We believe in the absolute authority, clarity, sufficiency, and necessity of Scripture in our lives. We also believe that the historic orthodox Christian creeds embody the fundamental facts of the faith. The Bible and these historic statements are the cornerstone of our beliefs at Blue Sky Church. We've included the Apostle's and Nicene creeds as part of our statement of faith.
The Apostle's Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
On the third day He rose again; He ascended into heaven, He is seated at the right hand of the Father, and He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten not made, of one being with the Father; through Him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation He came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human.
For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered death and was buried. On the third day He rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic* and apostolic church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.
*Catholic here means "universal" and does not refer specifically to the Catholic church.
