Beliefs
What Does Blue Sky Church Believe?
We understand the challenge of finding a church that feels like home while being confident that their values and beliefs are deeply rooted in Jesus and the truths of the Bible.
Our beliefs are pretty simple. We believe the bible answers our questions about who God is, what He is like, how we relate to Him, and why Jesus came, died and rose again. We believe in the absolute authority, clarity, sufficiency, and necessity of Scripture in our lives. We also believe that the historic orthodox Christian creeds embody the fundamental facts of the faith. The Bible and these historic statements are the cornerstone of our beliefs at Blue Sky Church. We've included the Apostle's and Nicene creeds as part of our statement of faith.
The Apostle's Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
On the third day He rose again; He ascended into heaven, He is seated at the right hand of the Father, and He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten not made, of one being with the Father; through Him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation He came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human.
For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered death and was buried. On the third day He rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic* and apostolic church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.
*Catholic here means "universal" and does not refer specifically to the Catholic church.
Vision
Our vision is to be a church of authentic people who live out the message of Jesus and the Bible in such a real way that others would experience the love and mercy of Jesus. At Blue Sky, we believe that Jesus wants His church to be a place where you can be real - loved right where you are and confident of what you will become! Wear clothes that are comfortable, have a great cup of coffee, and meet new friends. While we don't want to take ourselves too seriously, we take God very seriously! He's real. He loves us. We want to worship Him, experience His mercy, and find His purpose for us as we apply the Bible to our lives.
Values
Pursuing the Living God. We want to know God, worship Him, and follow Him passionately.
Following Jesus. Our intent is to believe Jesus' words, obey His commands, and do His works. We aim first to grow as authentic followers of Jesus ourselves and to then help others to follow Him.
The Holy Spirit. We believe Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit as our Helper and Counselor. We want to be responsive to the Holy Spirit's daily leading in our personal lives and in the church.
The Bible. We believe that the Bible is God's word to us. We want to build our relationship with Him by learning His words and applying them to our lives. It is our standard for what we believe and for what we do.
Prayer and Worship. We believe that prayer and worship are essential, because they are our primary means of maintaining our relationship with God. We love God and we want to be with Him.
People. All races, ages, styles, backgrounds... everyone! God loved us enough to send Jesus, so we also give love away to others. We want to live out this love consistently through caring for people.
Cultural Relevance. We want our music, atmosphere, language, and teaching style to be understandable and relevant to those around us.
Mercy and Compassion. We believe that mercy and compassion are the very things that God extended to us when He rescued us. Because of this, we believe we should extend mercy and compassion to others.
Integrity. We desire to be honest, open, and transparent in our relationships... speaking the truth in love and living a lifestyle that is consistent with our beliefs.
Generosity. God has been so generous with us, so we want to be a generous community that passes along His kindness. We do this primarily through planting new churches and helping the poor.
Simplicity. We want to do what we do in a natural, low-key, no-hype way presenting the simple truth of Jesus and experiencing the reality of His presence.
